Many years ago, my uncle gave me a movie entitled, Le Ballon Rouge (The Red Balloon) in which "A boy makes friends with a balloon, tames it, and the balloon begins to live a life of its own." (Source)
There are numerous interpretations of this award-winning movie ... However, for me, it is about hope and being different. It is about following a dream; weaving within the aspects of one's life that must remain and then weaving on over into what is next.
And doing so even "in the midst" of change ... And trusting that even as one dream "pops" ... Countless others will "lift" you up ... and over ...

Oh my. I'd nearly forgotten.
My grandfather used to read me the book version when I was just a little girl. I don't remember the details of the story, but I remember weeping at the fate of the boy's balloon. I'm not sure how to interpret it either (do interpretations matter at the age of five?), but I do know it made a tremendous impact on me. There's something about learning how to feel for another…
Oh. I added a clip to the video section. I can't believe I'd forgotten Pascal…
Siona ~ I almost included the clip to the video with my original post (thanks for linking it here) … But I adore the image of community as shown in the image of the final scene. It was what I “saw” in my mind as I reflected on this charming and thought-provoking movie.
I'm glad you chose that picture, too, and I love (did I not mention this already?) how you choose to 'see' the whole film. Thank you again… :)
WOW!!! I just had a rush of nostalgia - I watched that movie in elementary school!
Tara: Thanks for your comment! I enjoyed “being introduced” to you via your notes and blog. :-)
